Nepal

nepal.jpgDAI UK has developed a very special relationship with DAI Nepal and is supporting the ministry of leadership development in that country.

The need for developing good Christian leaders in Nepal is critically important. In 1950, there were only a handful of Christians in Nepal; by 1990 the Church had grown to 50,000 while today the Church has grown to over 800,000. That's like a Church of 50 members today growing to a Church of 800 in 2030. The challenges of such growth in terms of leadership and ministry are immense and the senior leaders of the Church in Nepal are looking for help to develop leadership in the Church in the country. Their solution to the leadership challenges has been to invite DAI to help them equip the next generation of leaders of the Church.

DAI’s Response

DAI responded with the Himalayan Leadership Programme: a series of 5 workshops of 3-4 days each over a period of about 15 months, which helps leaders develop an understanding of true servant leadership as espoused in the Bible, and which helps them to empower church members and provides them with a “safe” place to discuss many of the issues which can trouble new and emerging leaders.

Nepal November 2008030.jpg The Next Step: Multiplication

We now have an outstanding group of Christian leaders who understand the principles and practice of servant leadership. The next challenge is to multiply the impact they have experienced and see what they have learnt ripple down through the church. We are doing this through developing the leadership materials into the Nepali language and in running a number of "training of trainers" workshops so that Nepali Christian leaders develop the skills so they can pass-on what they have learned to others.

Next Steps 2011

  • Run a series of leadership training workshops for some of the senior leaders of the Nepali church
  • Continue with the process of helping Nepali leaders develop and contextualise the leadership training materials into Nepali, so it can be used more widely in the rural areas
  • Begin a series of Leadership Workshops in the Nepali language in rural Nepal
  • Run workshops on leadership for the next generation of leaders and also for women leaders
  • Continue the programme of training of trainers workshop in the country so that those who have been through the Himalaya Leadership Course can pass on what they have learned to others in an effective way
  • Provide some much needed resources for the DAI Office in Kathmandu

How you can help

To deliver these aims we need £15,000 to ensure these senior and emerging leaders are equipped to continue to make the cultural changes that are imperative for a healthy church in Nepal. We need partners who will be willing to help fund these strategic goals. If you feel that God may be prompting you to support this initiative, please use the "Make a Donation" icon and follow the instructions there.
