Our Impact

Sam Mukabi is the pastor of a large church just outside Kampala in Uganda. Sam’s leadership style as a pastor used to be, in his own words, “the ultimate ‘big boss’ leader, making every decision, with people afraid to challenge me.” Then at a DAI workshop for pastors on servant leadership offered by DAI, he recognized his problem, he repented and the change was dramatic. Sam began to implement the ethos and behaviour of a servant leader with his congregation and staff, and his church started to grow as people were released to use their gifts. As Sam shared leadership, others blossomed under his mentoring. Sam’s involvement with DAI over the past 10 years has changed his life and ministry dramatically. That change came about through a combination of training, and ongoing mentoring by DAI’s Ministry Centre Director in Uganda. DAI works with hundreds of people like Sam in some of the most forgotten parts of the world: highly motivated Christians who are working to meet the challenges faced in their home countries.

Nepal-Web-1.jpgNepal: DAI UK is developing a very close relationship with the revitalised church in Nepal, which has grown from 50,000 to 800,000 in the last 20 years. We have recently established a new Ministry Centre in Kathmandu to cater to the burgeoning demand for leadership training in the Christian community. We designed the leadership training programme in Nepal for younger leaders involved in full-time ministry. Small groups of like-minded leaders meet for five consecutive workshops, of three to four days each. Over a period of 15-18 months they receive intensive leadership training. This is followed up by mentoring and coaching between the workshops. Each leader formulates a personal action plan based on the  issues relevant to them and reports back to their peers at the next workshop. We launched this programme in English in Nepal, but we are now developing the materials into the Nepali language so that it can have even greater impact across the country. We are providing training of trainers’ workshops for those who have completed the leadership course to enable them to effectively teach it to others. Additionally we are working with Seminaries and Bible Colleges, helping their staff to more effectively teach their students, by using more interactive learning methods rather than simply lecturing.
